Again we were blessed beyond measure with our Christmas play which was a roaring success. Everyone worked hard, the congregation was ministered to, the gospel was proclaimed in drama and music, and I believe the Lord was glorified.

We had an unbeatable great family retreat at Lake Camanche last weekend where we studied the Word of God and still had time for sports and games, along with lots of barbeque and shish kebabs galore. Especially enjoying the water on a hot summer day is 15-month old Sedrick, his very first time in a lake, being held by his mother. And what would swimming be without a water gun fight led by Jonathan.

My 15 Favorite Leadership Tenets

I have listed my favorite 15 leadership tenets.
First, leaders have a vision
The first order of business for any leader is to have a clear vision. Every leader must know where he is going and what provisions are needed to get there. Reaching that vision is his most important work. The vision must be bigger than the leader and the company he leads. Elias A. Zerhouni, M.D., Director of the National Institute of Health, elaborated, “So make sure you have a big, bold, grand vision for yourself – and go for it” (Dormann, 2009, p. 62). The vision must be one that makes the world a better place.
Second, leaders have passion
Love your job and you will become good at it. Find a career that excites you and you won’t have to work the rest of your life. Take a personal inventory, discover what you are passionate about and then pursue it. Success and contentment will follow. When you love what you do, it will be easy for you.
Third, leaders have integrity
Always seek to do what is right. Honesty is the best policy. Leaders take the higher ground. Too many companies have failed because they compromised on their honor. Integrity should never be taken lightly. A company that has lost its reputation will lose the trust of its investors and customers. Integrity begins from the top. The best way for a leader to promote integrity within the company is to model it himself. Others will follow.
Fourth, leadership is a learning process
The best leaders are constantly learning how to improve their leadership skills. John C. Maxwell once wrote, “You don’t learn leadership in a day. You learn it daily” (personal communication, June 3, 2011). One excellent way to learn is to take on new responsibilities in order to expand your knowledge and widen your experiences. Maria Razumich-Zee advised, “Take on additional responsibility whatever and whenever possible” (Dormann, 2009, p. 154). Learn from those who are smarter than you and from your mistakes.
Fifth, leaders must be purveyors of hope and optimism
Things do not always go as planned. Leaders must look for the silver lining in every cloud. A positive attitude instills confidence, and confidence is an essential building-block for success. As Maria Razumich-Zee indicated, “Attitude is EVERYTHING” (Dormann, 2009, p. 155). To win you must think as a winner. Think of problems as opportunities and challenges. In fact, remove the word “problem” from your vocabulary.
Sixth, leaders seek excellence
No one receives recognition for mediocre work. Success is the result of striving for excellence in every area of the company. Striving for excellence must become the mindset in the workplace. Excellence can turn a good company into a great company. BMW and Mercedes Benz are leaders in the automotive industry because they excel in producing high quality cars. Excellence will drive out the competition. Producing poor quality products hurts the company by diminishing market share and loss of revenue. Quality is not an option in business; it is a necessity.
Seventh, leaders recruit the best talent
A leader is only as strong as the people around him. James D. Robinson, former Chairman and CEO of American Express, recommended, “Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you” (Dormann, 2009, p. 57). The people the leader recruits must be able to work together as a team. After all, success is the product of teamwork and not any single superstar. Ideally, the team will consist of diverse talents in order that the strength of one may offset the weakness of another. Leaders are always on the lookout for talented people because you can never have too many of them.
Eighth, leaders are forward-looking
Leaders have a clear picture of where they are going. They see the future in the present, and then strategize how to make it happen. Leaders do not dwell in the past for history cannot be altered. Leaders instead plan for the future. Forward-looking leaders promote innovations to keep up with the times. Being forward-looking means replacing or improving what is not working. One mantra of leadership should be “change or die.” Another part of being forward-looking is to produce a product not yet marketed or target a neglected group. Sir David Tang of Tang Development advocated, “You should always look for a niche – somewhere others have not been or something others have not done” (Dormann, 2009, p. 199). Creativity is needed to face the possibilities of tomorrow.
Ninth, leaders are problem-solvers
Problems will inevitable arise. Good leaders find solutions to problems. Leaders build credibility when they apply right solutions, and lose trust when they make wrong decisions. But even the greatest leaders will occasionally make wrong decisions. The key is to make more right decisions than wrong ones. It is the leader who is responsible for decision-making, not the stockholders, the media or public opinion. Leaders know not to use old solutions to new problems.
Tenth, leaders persevere
Tenacity is one quality of every true leader. “I quit” is not part of a leader’s vocabulary. They quit when the goal is finally reached. A leader continues to do what he believes is right no matter how difficult the task or how intense the opposition. Leaders know that “Nothing worthwhile comes easily.” Leaders are unwavering, pursuing their goal in the face of adversity. Leaders persevere because they believe in the cause. If there is one word to describe a true leader it is “relentless.”
Eleventh, leaders seek results
People trust leaders who produce results. Every new leader must strive for results early on in order to gain the confidence of those he leads. Companies grow and expand because of results, not good intentions or detailed strategies. As Brian Tracy stated, “All the wisdom in the world isn’t worth a dime if it doesn’t produce results” (personal communication, June 10, 2011). Results produce momentum and enthusiasm, two ingredients needed for success. Celebrating small victories instills a positive attitude in the workplace. Success is the reward of a series of small victories. Leaders build on past successes.
Twelfth, leaders communicate
Communication runs both ways. The leader must communicate the vision clearly and regularly in order to keep the company focused. Every leader must inspire his people to act upon the vision. At the same time every leader needs to hear from his staff members who may have powerful ideas for improving the company. Leaders must never think they have all the answers. They need the advice of others. Great leaders have an open-door policy where they welcome new ideas. One good advice to leaders is: Listen.
Thirteenth, leaders give the credit for success to their people
Success is the product of team-effort. Effective leaders understand this principle and give the credit to the team. Leaders gain respect if they share the glory. Leaders profusely use the pronouns “us” and “we” when it comes to success. Conversely, leaders accept the blame for failure and use the pronouns “I” and “my” for accepting the blame. Good leaders never fault others for failure.
Fourteenth, leaders display good manners
Showing good manners is not old fashioned. It is still fashionable today. Leaders must respect everyone under them. Employees who are treated with respect will perform better at work. You gain respect by giving it. Treat people like you want to be treated.
Fifteenth, leaders live a balanced life
There is more to life than just work. Life is made up of many interlinking components. Leaders live life to the fullest when they live a balanced life. Leaders must apply PEMS in a daily basis: P for physical exercise; E for emotional stability; M for mental exercise; and S for spiritual renewal. Discard one or more of these essentials and you will become imbalanced and ineffective.
These tenets have worked for me. I pass them on to you.

A Leader's Dream Team

Every leader knows that success is the product of team effort. The organization he leads can go no higher than the team. A weak team will produce a weak organization. A mediocre team will produce a mediocre organization. And a great team will produce a great organization. Every leader must always be on the lookout for talented people because no organization can have too many of them. As former Chairman and CEO of American Express James D. Robinson advised, “Surround yourself with people who are smarter than you.”
George Cladis mentions 7 characteristics of ministry teams. The last 3 are mine.
1. They are a covenanting team. They build a covenant among themselves where they choose to be accountable to each other.
2, They are a visionary team. They live, breathe and model the vision. You either have a vision or you have division. Do we as, a body live, eat, sleep and breathe our vision of Building Healthy Churches?
3. They are a culture-creating team. They live the culture of the organization, which at FBCDC is a culture of celebration and excellence.
4. They are a collaborative team. They work together to fulfill the vision. They compliment each other so that one’s strength compensates for the other’s weakness.
5. They are a trusting team. A team grows in a trusting environment. Trust is established when we keep our promises and fulfill our commitments.
6. They are an empowering team. They work to empower God’s people for ministry of service
7. They are a learning team. They are growing spiritually, self-motivated and passionate for the things of the Lord.
8. They are a relentless team. They do not give up until the vision is attained.
9. They are a results-oriented team. Vision, intention or planning are not enough. Results are what counts. As Brian Tracy stated, “All the wisdom in the world isn’t worth a dime if it doesn’t produce results.”
10. They are an optimistic team. I, your pastor, am an optimist and a purveyor of hope. As Maria Razumich-Zee proposed, “Attitude is EVERYTHING.” Think a winner and you will live a winner.

April 24: Easter Play

The children and youth of our church presented a tour-de-force, a spectacular play on the trial, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus last Easter Sunday. It was perhaps the most outstanding drama ever produced in the history of our church. The audience was spell-bound throughout the 6-act presentation.

Acclaim goes to all the students and youth who went all out to make this a great success. Many people helped, too many to list individually. But I would like in particular to mention two: Sis. Arlene, who graciously volunteered to spearhead this glorious event; and Sis. Vicky, who devoted much of her energy in producing the props and costumes. To these two, and to all the rest who helpsed, we give the credit.

But above all, we give the glory to God. He is wonderful.

April 10 Baptism

Sis. Ignacia Bonagwa is a new convert to Christ. Having no family here in the U.S., she has discovered a new family at FBCDC. To many of us, we have seen a dramatic change in her life. She is a model of faith, trusing God to meet her daily needs.

It is my pleasure to have her as our newest church member, and I am privileged to be her pastor.

God has given to us two new members. I have personally known Sis. Ignacia (left) and Bro Joel for some time. They are both a joy to my heart and a blessing to the church. In this photo, Sis. Oct. 15 Men's Fellowship

Every 3rd Friday of the month the men of the church meet for prayer, Bible Study, fellowship, leadership training, and vision assessment.

Sept. 13 Tagalog Bible Class

As a new outreach to the Filipino community in and around Daly City, FBCDC has recently began a Tagalog Bible class. Since the class is taught in Tagalog, the Philippine national language, it also provides 2nd generation Filipinos the opportunity to learn the language of their parents.

Currently, we are studying the New Testament book of James.

youth retreat

The weekend of July 4th our youth enjoyed a retreat held in Petaluma. All went well, God blessed, as the youth bonded, and were challenged to make Jesus their priority. "Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth" (Ecc. 12:1). I believer that from these very youth will arise "movers and shakers" for the Lord. Halleluyah !

May 16: Going Away Party

One of our church's favorite pastime must be potluck. We love to gather and eat as a church body.

So when one of our families in the church were relocating to Southern California, we just needed to have a potluck.

And since it has been a long time since we had tasted lechon, we decided this was just the perfect time to have lechon for our luncheon.

To Dr. Cyril, Sis. Moon, and Esil and Caleb, we will miss you. Thank you for your dedicated service in our church. I still recall when you first entered our church with your mother 10 years ago.

February 28 Basketball League

FBCDC's Sarimanok, under the dedicated leadership of Bro. Angelo and Bro Chis, played their second basketball game 2 weeks ago against the Peninsula Christian Fellowship of San Bruno. Our players played superbly, winning the 1st of 2 games; with our cheerleaders rooting them on enthusiastically.

It was a rich time of meeting other fellow Christians in the Bay Area, and of building unity among our youths. Besides the competitive game and the wild cheerleading, the snacks between games was simply mouthwatering!

Sept. 13: Baptism

We began yesterday's Worship Celebration with the baptism of two young men, Chris and Joe. Chris, a freshman college student, plays the drums in the Youth Praise Team (see photo above); while Joe plays the lead guitar in the Adult Praise Team. Both men have become committed Christians, and have grown in their faith.

The Youth Praise Team also presented an awesome Special Number in yesterday's Celebration Service before the message. Frankly, they were unbelievably good !

God is truly in the business of changing lives ! To Him be all the glory !

August 14-16: Youth Camp

Redwood Alliance Camp was just "out of this world." It was an awesome weekend for the youth of FBCDC to learn about God's undescribable way. The theme was "Leadership Under Construction," led by Sis. Hershey and Bro. Angelo.

As in any successful youth camp, games and contests are part of the program. You guys are the greatest ! You rock !

August 3-7: VBS

Many have stated that this year was the very best VBS ever! And I certainly agree. This year was also the largest group we ever had enrolled, 44 children registered.

VBS is time of bonding. So in these pictures we see two pretty girls bonding; and two handsome boys forming a tight friendship.

Hope you enjoy these pictures as much as we enjoyed presenting Christ to these children.

The LORD wonderfully blessed the Worship Service, yesterday, July 19. We have so much to be thankful for !

The July Birthday Celebrants with big smiles gather around the birthday cake.

The youth have fun washing cars after service to raise funds for their upcoming "youth camp."

God has blessed FBCDC with a fantastic praise band, who lead the congregation in a worshipful experience. God has used them for us to focus on the beauty of His holiness.

June 14: Youth' Booth Fund-Raiser

Last Sunday after church the youth held a fund-raiser for the upcoming youth camp.

Here are a few of pictures taken.

December 21: Christmas Program

Last Sunday the youth, children, and toddlers presented the Christmas program to the church. Much hard work was put into making this drama a success. So many were amazed to see the talent of our church youth and children.

The youth had so much fun in the production of this Christmas drama, that they can't wait to produce the next play.

The church credits the LORD for its success, for how smoothly the play went, and for how many were able to attend. He is worthy of all praise !

October 26: Baptism

It is always a joy to see young men follow the LORD in waters of baptism.
The first picture shows Bro. Angelo attending the New Membership Class with Sis. Ida; the second picture shows his baptism by immersion.
Bro. Angelo first entered our church doors for the first time just last January, and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior four months later, on May.

By accepting the Lord into his heart, Bro. Angelo has found a heavenly home; and by baptism he has found a church home.

Computer Work Team Off To Thailand

I had the wonderful privilege in joining 18 other volunteers under the auspices of Wycliffe Associates, from July 12-26. Our task was to unpack and assemble over 100 new computers for Grace International School, in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. In addition, we repaired old computers for donation to various ministries.

In one picture I am installing some new application, and updating newer programs, in a high school teacher's classroom.

I joined a group of 3 other volunteers where we went to the town of Pai, and donated one computer to a church. The lady in front of this church is a Bible student with YWAM.

The next stop was to the town of Mae Hong Son, where we donated 3 computers to a girl's orphanage. We were told by our driver with a very straight face, that the zig zag road from Chiang Mai to Mae Hong Son had 1,674 turns.

Some of the volunteers are seen in front of the Grace International School, where we had the privilege of assisting their computer ministry. Our brief stay in Thailand will dearly be remembered, and our labor was done solely for the consummate glory of the Holy One !

July 9: VBS

God is faithful. God is true.

Vacation Bible School is one of FBCDC's regular summer ministries. Last year we enrolled a total of 22 children under age 12 in VBS.

We are currently on our 3rd day of a 5-day VBS. Yesterday and today we totaled 31 children each day under age 12, for an increase of 40% over last year.

It is to God we give the credit.

In addition, there were several comments from the children themselves that this has been the best VBS yet. To God be the glory!

June 15: Father's Day

Yesterday we as a church celebrated "Father's Day." The theme was "A Hawiian Luau." Everyone had a great time.

Here are some selections of that joyful celebration. Our very talented dance intructor was Esil, the daugther of our church trustee.

Notice the "father" in grass skirt... Hmm...???

The church is also so blessed with a growing number of beautiful children. The three pictured are: Andrea, Esil and Faith.

This was an afternoon long to be remembered. And to God we give the glory!

Today we were joyously blessed with the baptism of 5 candidates.

In this post are the baptisms of our two faithful youths, joseph (a high school junior) and ansel (a graduating high school senior).

It is my belief that God has a special blessing to those who take a public stand for Him. "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven" (Matt. 10:32).

April 13: New Membership Class

The Invitation is a time where we allow members of the congregation to come forward after the message to express their desire to follow the Master. Three weeks ago Sis. Donna came forward to express her desire to join FBCDC.

At FBCDC everyone who joins the church must first attend a New Membership Class, taught by myself, the pastor, and Sis. Ida. In this photo taken last Sunday afternoon, Sis. Ida is covering a lesson with Sis. Donna (right).

Sis. Donna, you and your daughters are a rich blessing to all of us at FBCDC. As you have been a tremendous blessing to us, may God Almighty bless you abundantly.

March 23: Easter Sunday

Below are 3 pictures taken this past Easter Sunday: the Praise Team; the children busy in their arts and crafts; lastly, fellowship luncheon at our church's fellowship hall.

Our last Easter Sunday was very well attended by first-time visitors, and current and past members. We owe everything to our loving Savior for what He has done in our church.

2008 has been a very busy year so far, but a year where we have experienced to the fullest the wonderful works of God.

March 9: Junior Praise Team

Last Sunday we were privileged to have several of our children sing praises to the Lord during our Worship Service. In this picture we have from left to right: Saidaj, Haniya, Christina, Esil, Christopher, Jonathan, and RJ.

We have called them our Junior Praise Team, and they will be singing before the congregation once a month.

Truly out of the mouth of these children God has exalted praise. To God be the glory!

December 30: New Membership Class

First Baptist Church of Daly City ended the year 2007 with two candidates seeking church membership. Richard Todd and Vicky Morris (center) attended the New Membership Class after the Worship Service on December 30. The New Membership Class is taught by both the pastor and Sis. Ida (right).

2007 has been a good year for the church, and for that we give to the LORD all of the praise.

December 23: Children's Christmas Program

The church would like to thank Sis. Grace and Sis. Moon for the hard work they did in producing this year's Children's Christmas Program.

But foremost we would like to thank the Lord for giving us such an unbeatable group of children. They truly love the Lord, and have learned so much in Children's Church.

The children worked hard at practice, memorized their lines, and just outdid themselves. There were many big smiles from the parents as they witnessed their child perform.

Personally, i will remember this program for many years as one of the best productions our children produced. To God be all of the glory!

December 8: Secret Pal Revelation

Several women in the church have organized a Secret Pal group. And at the end of each year they celebrate Revelation Day, where each lady discovers who her secret pal has been all year long. This is a day of great surprises, as no one knows for sure who that person is.

The women in this Secret Pal group met in the home of Sis. Virginia.

This is a time of good food, genuine fellowship and great fun.

November 18: Birthday Celebrants

One of the traditions our church has kept over the years is a monthly 3rd Sunday potluck, held after the Worship Service. It is a wonderful time of fellowship and food. We like to boast that in our church we feed both the soul and the body.

It is during these 3rd Sunday potlucks we celebrate members and friends who have a birthday that month. Naturally, we always serve a succulent birthday cake and ice cream.

Attached is the November birthday celebrants. Our church is made up of all ages. For November the youngest birthday celebrant turned 3 years old; the eldest turned 86.

November 12: Farewell Gathering

A number of the members of FBCDC gathered yesterday at the pastor's home to hold a farewell party for Sis. Raquel. Sis. Raquel will be leaving the beautiful Bay Area to transfer to Los Angeles.

We have all been blessed by Sis. Raquel. We are so thankful to have had her serve with us. We will miss her, but we are assured that the Almighty has better things in store for her in the days ahead.

Sis. Raquel was our church pianist, our VBS Director, a prayer warrior, and a close friend. But yesterday's party was not a goodbye, as many of us will stop by and visit with her during our visits in LA.

November 10: Birthday Party

Last Saturday was the 8th birthday party of Haniya Taylor, one of our regular Children's Church attenders. Haniya and her mother, Donna, are a blessing to our church; and have become very dear to the entire church family.

Haniya's older sister, Hovanah, flew in all the way from Los Angeles, to attend her little sister's birthday celebration.

To Haniya, may you always walk with the Lord.

October 28: Children Special Number

We were all so thrilled to see the children of the church perform a special number last Sunday.

It is my priviledge to watch the children grow in their walk with the Lord. Watching these children grow is definetly one of my greatest joys, as the pastor of the church.

We are blessed with dedicated children's workers who teach our children week after week. Kudos to Sis. Moon, Sis. Ida, Sis. Josie, and Sis. Grace for their devoted ministry to these children, along with the many others who help out as well.

October 27: Sonoma Field Trip

Last Saturday several of our church members and friends took a field trip to Sonoma Valley, home to many of the finest wine vineyards of Northern California. The 21 of us who were able to attend had an unforgetable time visiting the Cornerstone Gardens; the Viansa Vineyard; and a local fruit market.

I am a novice making video clips. In fact, this is my very first one. Here is a clip of the movie produced.

Each one of us had a great time of fellowship, fun and food, to which we thank our loving Creator for.

We would like to thank Cornerstone Gardens and the Viansa Vineyard for being the perfect hosts and providing the perfect tours. We highly recommend anyone to stop by Cornerstone Gardens and Viansa Vineyard for their next Sonoma trip. We want to thank Dawn Smith of Cornerstone Gardens and John Bryan of Viansa Vineyard for permission to publish this blog.

We also thank Sis. Grace for her hard work in spearheading this happy church event.

Ruth Rosen, daughter of Moishe Rosen, founder of Jews for Jesus, and author Ceil Rosen, presents an enactment of the seder, the Jewish Passover meal. Although there were so many new lessons to learn, what stood out to me personally was how 3 matzas were kept inside a cloth, but only the 2nd one (the middle one), was the one that was broken .... which to me meant how the 2nd Person of the holy Trinity was broken for our sins.

And then too how the children would open the front door and look out to see if the prophet Elijah was approaching to proclaim the coming of the Messiah. Of course, the Messiah had already come 2,000 years ago.

And then too there was a resemblance of our Easter egg hunting. A matzo was hidden inside the house, and the child who would find it would receive a reward. We are to seek diligently for Christ, the Manna from heaven, and he who finds Him receives an eternal reward of life without end.

On the table was also a roasted lamb shankbone. This clearly represented our Savior, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Yes, the study of Jewish tradition has value to the contemporary Christian faith.

August 11: Church Picnic

Summer would not be summer without hotdogs, chips, salsa, corn on the cob, lemonade and watermelon. So the Saturday following Vacation Bible School FBCDC held a church-wide picnic in the church parking lot. Several from the neighborhood also came and joined us.

It was a fun time. The children played baseball, basketball and skip rope. The adults especially enjoyed the food, the company, and the LORD (but not in that order). It was a cold summer afternoon, so several were all bundled up in warm clothes.

It was such a successful picnic, we bagan to make plans for the next one.

August 6-10: Vacation Bible School

The future of our nation rests on the hands of today's children. We, at FBCDC, desire to guide our children to become good citizens.

Realizing that the children of today will determine the future course of America, FBCDC was delighted to hold Vacation Bible School for 5 days, for children ages 11 and under.

The theme of Vacation Bible School was "Knowing Christ." Each day the children learned Bible stories, Scripture memorization, crafts, and a missionary story on the life of John Patton, missionary to New Hebrides. There was time also for outdoors games and sports.

The last picture is the Closing Program, held in the evening of August 10, and witnessed by many parents, grandparents, and guardians.

August 5: Children's Church

FBCDC is proud of our Children's Church ministry. I am convinced that our teachers and those who assists are models of what a true follower of Jesus should be. We teach by life and we teach by example.

I believe that the most receptive group to come to Christ are children. Therefore we as a church place much emphasis on our children's ministry.

The children sing "I Have Decided to Follow Jesus." Following our LORD is what Christianity is all about. It is about the Lordship of Christ: not only receiving Christ as Savior from sin, but also as the ultimate Authority in our individual lives.

July 14: Church Field Trip

"Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created" (Rev. 4:11). As we lift up our eyes to the heavens, as we behold His handiwork on earth, we realize how majestic a Creator we have.

The children and youth of FBCDC, along with some parents, last Saturday visited the Exploratorium in San Francisco which is located across the Presidio, between the famous Fisherman's Wharf and the Golden Gate Bridge.

The Exploratorium is a wonderful interactive place with numerous exhibits. It is a fascinating venue for young and old, with its marvels of science.

Next we visited Crissy Field at the Golden Gate National Park. You can see the Golden Gate Bride at the background. It was a typical summer day in San Francisco, which meant we all had to bundle up in jackets!

Before heading home, we stopped to get a bite to eat, and then walked leisurely to Baskin- Robbins so each one could indulge in their favorite ice cream. Not only was it an enjoyable time for everyone, ties of friendship were strenghened.

June 24: Ocean Baptism

After church Sunday several of the members drove to a beach in Pacifica to witness the baptism of Sis. Raquel Marquez. It was about 3:00 p.m., and as you can see by the waves, not only was it high tide, but the waves were fierce.

We had to perform the baptism quickly, in- between waves, because each wave swept us off our feet.

It has been my belief for many years that baptism must always follow faith. As Ephesians 4:5 reads, "One Lord, one faith, one baptism." Faith is a pre-requisite of baptism.

To Sis. Raquel, the words of Corrie Ten Boom, who is now with the Lord, "The best is yet to be."

May 20: New Membership Class

Jose Dennis Tan is our newest church member. The picture below shows him attending the New Membership Class last Sunday, taught by Sis. Ida. His favorite verse is Matthew 6:33, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." He testifies that it was when he put God first in his life that the LORD gave him a wonderful job at a 5-diamond, 5-star hotel in San Francisco.

He also loves to sing praise to the LORD with his guitar. Here is a singing "The Power of Love" a special number before the message. His desire is to be used of the LORD in bringing sinners closer to the Savior.

May 13: Mother's Day

I have always believed that our nation is only as great as its mothers. When we have a nation of God-fearing mothers, we will raise a generation of God-fearing children.

In 2 Timothy 1:5 we read how a grandmother named Lois taught her daughter Eunice, who in turn taught her son Timothy. God's saving grace was delivered from one generation to the next. This is the message of today: to share God's holy love to our children, who will in turn share God's holy love to their children.

Abraham Lincoln once said: "No man is poor who has a godly mother." The truth of this message spoken about 150 years ago still resonates today.

Bro. Dennis gives his testimony on how good the LORD has been to him, followed by a special number. His favorite Bible verse is Matthew 6:33, "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you."

He has also indicated his desire to join the church, so is scheduled to attend the next New Membership Class.

Bro. Dennis is a contractor. He and my father have one thing in common: both were born and raised in the province of Cebu, Philippines.

March 25: Worship Service

One of my favorite symblolism used about Christ is the Good Shepherd who takes care of His sheep. The Good Shepherd also protects His sheep. Sis. Moon testifies how the LORD had recently protected her and her son Caleb from a serious car accident as they were driving down scenic Highway 1.

"Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, and will deliver him and honor him" (Psalm 91:14,15).

Notice the 5-fold promises God makes to those who walk with Him from the passage above: 1) "I will rescue him; 2) "I will protect him; 3) I will answer him; 4) "I will be with him; and 5) "will deliver him."

March 18: Worship Service

I have known Hannah for the past 9 years. Two things that I have observed about her are: a) she loves the Lord; and 2) she is growing in the Lord.

Here she is singing the hymn "Open My Eyes, That I May See," a hymn composed by Clara H. Scott, during the Worship Service. Our heavenly Father has graced her with the gift of voice.

As I see our church children grow up into youth, I often remind them of Ecclesiastes 12:1, "Remember your Creator in the days of your youth." I believe that if we teach our children and youth to do right today, they will become productive and useful citizens tomorrow. And right and wrong is based on the unchanging Word of God, not on the changing value system of modern society.

March 16: Women's Fellowship

Several of the women of FBCDC enjoy a hearty St. Patrick's Dinner, relishing a traditional Irish cuisine. As usual, it is always a time of laughter when the women gather together for their monthly fellowship. The Women's Fellowship rotate homes each month for the gathering, and this month the fellowship was held in the home of Sis. Ruth.

The joy in each fellowship is not only that they enjoy a sumptious dinner, but that the women also know the LORD as their personal Savior. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16).

March 11: Children in Worship Service

FBCDC is a singing church. Through song we are able to share God's goodness and grace to others. Saida and Hannah sing with angelic voices a Special Number to the congregation. As the Bible says: "Let every thing that has breath praise the LORD" (Psalm 150:6).

Because we are commanded to reach out to the generation to come, FBCDC is truly blessed with a dynamic Children's Church from 11:00am-12:15pm each Sunday. Personally, there is exceeding joy to see children walk in the truth.

Tagalog Adult Bible Study

As an outreach to our community, FBC has recently started a Tagalog Adult Bible Study, led by Ida Matriano. The class meets 10:00 a.m. Sundays in church. Although she has a B.A. from Siliman University, and a M.A. from the University of the Philippines, she wants to be simply known as a humble servant of the LORD.

Sis. Ida has been a faithful member of FBC for the past 10 years, and is our prayer warrior. She is actively involved in outreach.

The LORD has blessed her with 4 very wonderful children, one of which is with the LORD. In her free time she loves gardening and art.

Children in Church

At FBC children play a very important role. The children are encouraged to use the talents that the LORD has given to them, even at a very young age.

We are profusely blessed with exceptional teachers who devote much time, effort and prayer in providing meaningful lessons in Sunday School (10:00 a.m.), and in Children's Church (11:00 a.m.). At FBC the children are the greatest, and so are their teachers. We are a church which takes the children's ministry seriously.

Shown here are Esil and Caleb Empig singing a special number before the Pastor's Message, to the delight of the whole congregation. Personally, anytime children sing during the Worship Service makes the service even more meaningful to me.

February 25: Scripture Reading

Ansel Vibat was named after the famous American photographer Ansel Adams. Both were born in San Francisco. Ansel is actively involved in the church youth group, and enjoys attending Bible studies. Here he is reading a Scripture passage during the Worship service.

Ansel is very gifted, and has been selected to attend the chartered Leadership High School in San Francisco. He loves music and plays the piano; loves video games, like any normal youth; and being a true San Fran supporter, roots for the San Francisco 49'ers.

February 16 Night of Repentance

Last Friday was a very moving experience as the church humbled itself in a Night of Repentance. This was in accordance to Acts 3:19 (NIV): "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out." The hand of the LORD was mightily felt throughout the entire service.
